RNLI Lifeboat Station works to resume next month

Works on the new RNLI lifeboat station which is being built in Cleethorpes will resume next month after being paused due to issues with materials being delivered.

The £3m project is set to be complete by the middle of next year as traffic restrictions, which had been put in place for the duration of the project, have been temporarily lifted.

Works for the station began back on April 19, with part of the promenade being sectioned off for works to commence.

The new station will be situated on the beach in front of the current station and will provide the capability to position a second lifeboat at Cleethorpes, a more powerful B Class Atlantic 85, which will join the existing D-Class lifeboat already on station.

Announcing the pause a spokesperson for Cleethorpes RNLI wrote: “We’ve been advised by our contractors of a delay due to a problem with the delivery of the next batch of materials. The length of this delay isn’t yet known, but may be as little as a month.

“In the interim, other tasks that can still be done on site will continue. As these won’t involve deliveries to the roadway section, we’re removing the usual traffic restrictions while we can to reduce inconvenience to local people, businesses and visitors.”

However the charity has now stated that works are expected to resume in December.

Press officer Matt McNally has now said: “We’re expecting pre cast sections to start being installed on site at the beginning of December, the project should still complete next summer.”

RNLI have been sharing regular updates on their Facebook page documenting the works that are expected to take 12 months to complete.

Andy Burden, Deputy Launch Authority at Cleethorpes, added: “The new building has been designed to be an asset to the resort, complementing and enhancing the central promenade and becoming a visitor attraction in its own right.

“We’re all local residents ourselves and are pleased that such care has been taken in the design of the station.”
