Praise as Ice-Cream Van hands out free treats to emergency workers during scorching heat wave

A local Ice-Cream Van company has received praise from residents recently as they have dedicated free ice cream to emergency workers.

The Met Office recently release an amber heat warning across most of the UK – including Grimsby – as temperatures could reach a sweltering 32C on Sunday.

Now, Harrison’s Ices in Cleethorpes will be giving a free 99p ice cream to any 999 emergency worker including firefighters, police officers, and paramedics.

The extreme weather warning, which could potentially cause a risk to life, has now been extended until Monday.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, the head of extreme events and health protection at the UK Health Security Agency, said: “Heat-health alerts have now been issued to the majority of the country, with temperatures set to remain consistently high throughout the duration of this week.”

The promotion at Harrison’s Icesis available to all those on duty and in full uniform and can be claimed from any of the company’s vans.

In a Facebook post, the company said: “For all of those emergency workers out there on the frontline – Ambulance / Police / Fire Brigade – feel free to call up to any of our vans for a free ice cream.

“This only applies to the above and this will last as long as the heatwave. Just our way of helping keep the people who are there for us all cool and chilled with a nice treat.

“When in full uniform and on duty only. I would love to do this for more workers, but I’m no millionaire yet.”

Many have praised the company for giving back to such dedicated hard workers who deserve a treat in the extreme heat.

One emergency worker, Keri Wales, replied to the post with a picture of herself and police colleagues enjoying the summer treat, writing: “Thank you Harrison’s ice creams you are a kind-hearted guy who made police and fire and ambulance very happy today.”
