Scunthorpe MP on Boris Johnson’s resignation

A look back on the Scunthorpe MP’s reaction following Boris Johnson’s resignation announcement last week.

Holly Mumby-Croft first issued a video statement to social media addressing the topic, a message that began with “I understand that there will be a lot of different views” following the Prime Ministers announcement.

The Scunthorpe MP then stated she would continue to fight for the town, adding she would “continue to do everything I can to work hard for our area” following the incredible investments seen in previous years.

Holly then quite rightly labelled the support of the steel industry and the high street as a “great success.”

“It’s my job now to make sure whoever takes over from the Prime Minister and who takes on that role is absolutely the very best person for Scunthorpe.

“I want to reassure you that I will continue to work as hard as I can possible can and that I will do everything I can to make sure that our next Prime Minister is the absolute proper person for our area and makes all the right decisions for us here in Scunthorpe,” she added.

Then when speaking to Peter Levy on BBC Look North, Holly said the “absolute last thing we now need” is two months of news headlines and MP’s arguing if Boris should stay in office until Autumn.

Peter then questioned if the Scunthorpe MP was “very worried for her job” after she earned her position through the success of Boris’ leadership campaign, to which she replied:

“It’s not my role to worry about my job, it’s my role to stick up for the people of Scunthorpe.

“What’s really important now is that I continue doing my job,” and “stick up for my constituents.”
