Inquest heard tragic death of Grimsby schoolgirl  is ‘unexplained’

An inquest into the tragic death of 11-year-old Grimsby schoolgirl Roxy-Mae Barber saw the attendance of grieving relatives.

At the court, they were told her death remains unexplained after she was discovered on May 4 at an address in Whitby Drive, Grimsby.

North East Lincolnshire assistant coroner, Marianne Johnson formally opened proceedings at Cleethorpes Town Hall.

She welcomed mum Tracy Woodliffe and uncle Ben Woodliffe. Mrs. Johnson said: “I first want to express my condolences. It must be a really difficult time.” She told them she would be adjourning the inquest to a date to be fixed.

In her introduction, she said the 11-year-old was found at an address at Whitby Drive, Grimsby on May 4. She confirmed that Roxy-Mae was born in July 2010.

The coroner said: “She died on May 4, 2022, at her home. She was identified by Tracy Woodliffe. The cause of death is unexplained, pending investigation.” She adjourned the proceedings to a date in January, next year.

There was a huge amount of support and sympathy following the death of Roxy-Mae.

A service to celebrate her life was held in early June followed by a funeral service at Laceby cemetery. Mourners are said to have worn colourful clothes in her memory and donations were made to the RSPCA in tribute to Roxy-Mae’s love of animals.
