New signage to protect locals in Cleethorpes
The Cleethorpes Beach rescue team have installed new signs around the resort to help protects locals.
As the beach environment is subject to constant change, the team wants to make sure locals stay aware of how to stay safe.
Over the weekend, a couple and their dog got trapped in deep mud behind the Cleethorpes Leisure Centre.
As the tide was quickly approaching, the wife quickly rang 999 to help her husband who had gotten stuck up to his chest in water and mud.
Thanks to RNLI the pair were saved, but they also became a cautionary tale of how fast the environment can change.
This year, the resort has seen an increase in deep mud, meaning it would be easy to become stuck.
The rescue team have placed the new signs around these areas to alert people of the danger and to help them avoid getting stuck.
Some of the creeks also quickly fill with water before and during high tide, causing a risk to life.
If you ever start sinking in mud you must stop, turn around, and retrace your steps to safety.
If you cannot get out, ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
