Ex-Scunthorpe manager describes relegation as ‘heartbreaking’

Former Scunthorpe United manager, Brian Laws has described the Iron’s relegation as “heartbreaking”

Brian Laws led the Iron for almost 600 games across multiple managerial periods, enjoying two league promotions in the process.

However, during his final stint at the club, Scunthorpe sacked the gaffer following a 2-1 FA Cup first-round replay exit to rivals Grimsby Town.

This season, Scunthorpe’s fate was sealed following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Leyton Orient.

The thrashing by the O’s ended the Irons 72-year stay in the English Football League.

Speaking to ITV News Calendar, former boss, Brian Laws stated this season has been a disaster from start to finish, and the only way to rectify the situation in preparation for life in the National League is to “remove everybody”

Laws stressed that owner Peter Swann must leave the club and take full responsibility for the current season, labelling the proceedings as an “absolute tragedy”

“I feel so sorry for the fans. We’ve got some die-hard supporters who will support the club through thick and thin, no matter what division they are in”, he added.

“But to see the position that our club is in is heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking”

Following the interview, fans quickly took to social media to express their feelings.

One fan said:

“I have never been a Laws fan, but I would take him back in a heartbeat”

“I’ve always had massive respect for Laws, we need him back!”, another added.

One thing is for sure, Scunthorpe United have a serious internal issue that needs to be eradicated before life in the National League begins!
