Fishing equipment causes damage as goose sustains painful injury from fishing line
Another bird has sadly been injured by lost fishing equipment in Cleethorpes, causing a painful injury.
This poor goose was rescued from Thorpe Park by volunteers from Cleethorpes Wildlife rescue after reports of it struggling on one leg.
The team could clearly see that the injury was a result of lost fishing equipment, as a hook had embedded itself into the foot while the fishing line was wrapped around the leg.
Cleethorpes Wildlife rescue said: “Volunteers have collected this goose from Thorpe Park after reports of it struggling on one leg. It was clear from the onset that this was going to be a fishing-related injury, indeed fishing line had wrapped around the leg, and the hook had also embedded into the palmate (foot). People fishing never go with the intention of loosing their line but sadly when it does happen it can have a terrible impact on local wildlife.
“It’s injury will now be treated in our rescue where it will be rehabilitated and released.”
This is not the first fishing-related accident to happen to wildlife around Cleethorpes.
Back in March, Dayla the Swan was rescued from Cleethorpes Boating Lake after swallowing a fishing line, hook and float.
The line couldn’t be removed at the lake as it could have caused incredibly painful and extensive damage to its throat.
She needed incredibly expensive emergency surgery that was thankfully raised by members of the public.
