Nearly 25 tonnes of litter collected after Armed Forces weekend
While this year’s Armed Forces weekend was filled with excitement ad laughter, the aftermath wasn’t so pretty.
Many images and videos have been shared on social media showing the resort from the fitties up to the North Wall covered in masses of litter, mainly food wrappers.
The street cleansing team were put through their paces as they quickly cleared up the area, making it look brand new.
However, the monumental job saw nearly 25 tonnes of rubbish collected in total, the equivalent of six Red Arrow Hawk jets!
Sharing the shocking collection North East Lincolnshire Council said: “Thank you for all the kind messages for the street cleansing team. Here’s some of the rubbish they collected from Cleethorpes over the weekend.
“There’s about 25 tonnes in total, we reckon that’s the same weight as 6 Red Arrow Hawk jets. Thanks for the support, it means a lot to the team.”
Many thanked the street cleansing team for their hard work at keeping the resort clean and safe for everyone who visits.
One such person wrote: “Well done and thank you for your hard work. Walked down the seafront this morning with a friend and was nice to see it looking quite tidy ( they were still cleaning when I was down there ) after such a busy weekend.”
Although the team did a great job, others were still furious that the resort had been left covered in litter as many urged fellow residents and visitors to take their rubbish home if a bin is full.
One person wrote: “It was shocking how many didn’t do what we did and just take a carrier bag with them for rubbish and take it home or pop it in a bin it’s not hard. The place was left in a terrible state I dread to think of these people’s homes if they think it’s acceptable to leave rubbish all over like that and are teaching their children that too!”
