Red Arrows and Typhoons set to thrill Cleethorpes Armed Forces Weekend 2022

As the Cleethorpes Armed Forces Weekend date draws closer, the nation’s RAF display teams are set to be a top attraction for the weekend.

The Red Arrows, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and Typhoons from RAF Coningsby will be at the celebration on June 25th and 26.

According to organisers, there will also be an exciting display by The Royal Navy Wild Cats, across the entire stretch of seafront.

The event is set to be the largest celebration since the first hosted event took place in Cleethorpes, back in 2016, with this year’s national event taking place in Scarborough.

Director of the North East Lincolnshire Armed Forces Major Events Team, Gavin Marshall, said “We are delighted that we can have the RAF assets in Cleethorpes as well as the national event in Scarborough.

“There will be two days of great flying to see and we have been allowed to piggyback on the national event.

“On Saturday there will be a Squadron 29 Typhoon, the full Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane and our Red Arrows.

“We are also delighted to have the P5 Mustang as the crowd has a passion for some of our older aircraft as well.

“It will return on Sunday, along with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a Typhoon display. Another highlight will be the Royal Navy’s Wild Cat display team with their helicopters which promises to be a magnificent sight.

“It is going to be a fabulous weekend and there will be plenty of opportunities for people to see the displays on both days.

“People need this. We are hoping it will attract people from further afield, as well as residents. The Red Arrows have a national following and the Battle of Britain Memorial flight is a great crowd pleaser.”

It is expected to draw in around 200,000 visitors for the weekend, with the last two events being cancelled due to COVID-19, it may see numbers boom.
