Road closed for new RNLI station development

There have been road signs put up as work has commenced on the new £3 million RNLI station in Cleethorpes.

The central promenade is reportedly closed to traffic at the Kingsway junction- the prom can still be accessed from Sea road.

It is still open for pedestrians and cyclists however they are being told to remain on the opposite side of the construction.

The construction is expected to take around a year to complete after RNLI reportedly waited to start until after the Easter break.

The plans for the station were approved back in 2018 and it will reportedly have an Atlantic 85 lifeboat on the station.

The RNLI has said they worked closely with businesses, locals, and partners to commune the best site and traffic plan without unwarranted inconvenience.

The work will inevitably cause some disruption, however, it is folly to expect such in construction situations such as these.

There is an area of the closure where it will allow cars to turn around.

There have been personnel on-site directing traffic and pedestrians and supervising those to the correct side of the road.

The Central Prom will be opened fully between the hours of 6 pm and 7 am, reportedly one-way traffic.

There will be additional signage installed around the area on the approaches to divert traffic to other car parks.

It will have access to the Brighton Street slipway for users, including the launch of the lifeboat and other watersports.

Steve Randall, Estates Engineer for the RNLI said: “We appreciate that this is an unwelcome disruption at the start of what we hope will be a bumper season for the resort, but the various restrictions on the build process that we have to accommodate, including tourism considerations and Natural England requirements”.
