Cleethorpes residents baffled by bizarre humming sound

Residents in Cleethorpes have been left confused about the origins of a bizarre and unexplained humming noise in the area.

The discussion was started by one local who shared their experience on Facebook, stating: “Does anyone in Cleethorpes hear humming at night?

“It sounds like a machine or an engine of some kind but I can never see anything out of my window. It wakes me up at night, it’s not the sound of a helicopter or an engine, does anyone else hear this in the Sydney Sussex area?”

This question prompted multiple responses from many other residents who have experienced the same phenomenon.

According to others, the humming can be heard around the town not just in the Sydney Sussex area, with reports coming in from Dugard Road, People’s Park, and even North Sea Lane.

Multiple theories have been suggested as to what the humming may be.

Some suggested roadworks, others said ships coming in to dock and some said it could be wind turbines.

One person wrote: “Its entirely possible to be one of the factories on the Humber Bank. When I lived in Keelby I could hear the refinery.

“I live near the Beachcomber now and can hear a low buzzing, could be the wind turbines or water pumping station.”

Despite multiple theories being discussed, an answer has not been found.
