Update after Stallingborough level crossing incident

A number of trains travelling towards Cleethorpes were cancelled yesterday afternoon following a ‘major incident’ on the tracks at Stallingborough level crossing.

Details regarding the nature of the incident, which caused widespread disruption, have yet to be confirmed.

Emergency services, including CSI and ambulance teams, were spotted at the scene.

A spokesperson for TransPennine Express said: “Due to an operational incident between Barnetby and Grimsby Town all lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed.

“Disruption is expected until 17:30.”

The crossing reopened at around 19:00, allowing traffic and trains to pass through.

Speaking to Gi Media, a passenger whose train was halted beteen Barnetby and Haborough said: “The train had just recently pulled out of Barnetby station when it came to a sudden halt.

“Staff then told us there had been a major incident on the tracks, and that the train would have to return to the station.

“When we arrived, we were told that alternative travel would be arranged as the service had been cancelled for the remainder of the day.”

British Transport Police have been contacted for a statement.
