Trial to prohibit parking at certain times on Edward Street in Cleethorpes to be made permanent
A trial to prohibit parking at certain times in a bid to help bin lorries access Edward Street in Cleethorpes has been made permanent.
After the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) was introduced last September to the junction of Edward Street and William Street, Councillor Stewart Swinburn has now decided to make the order permanent.
This is because bin lorries are now able to access Edward Street – a location which used to be regularly obstructed by parked cars.
The ETRO introduced no waiting or loading restrictions on and opposite the junction of Edward Street and William Street to prevent parking between the hours of 7am and 2:30pm on collection days every Tuesday and Thursday.
A single yellow line is marked on the carriageway and signs were installed clearly displaying the restricted times. People parking on these lines during the specified times and days face a fine.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “When we introduced this trial last year, we stated it would be dependent on the results and it is reassuring to hear from colleagues in waste services that vehicles are no longer obstructing their lorries and preventing collections.
“This project has been a great piece of co-ordination between our waste service and highway officials at ENGIE to develop a solution for the benefit of residents on these streets.
“It is vital we support the waste service in carrying out their essential duties and at the same time, support local residents in having their waste collected – made possible by the continuation of this trial.”
Highway officials will now wait for the statutory call-in period to be observed before finalising the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) in the coming weeks, subject to no call-in being received.
