Alarm at Cleethorpes store as staff member tests positive for Covid-19

The Heron Foods store in Cleethorpes had to be deep cleaned after a staff member tested positive for Covid-19.

The company confirmed that an employee had tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday.

The alarm was raised after the employee began displaying symptoms.

A spokesperson for the company said the store had undergone a deep clean, but staff members and customers have expressed concern that not enough had been done, and that none of the staff members who came into contact with the individual have been instructed to isolate.

As of May 28, anybody in the UK who tests positive for coronavirus is contacted by the NHS Test & Trace service.

Those confirmed to have the virus are asked for the contact details of anyone they have come in close proximity to and for the places they have visited.

Anyone who has been in close proximity with the patient also has to isolate for 14 days whether they have symptoms or not.

But there are questions over how, in this case, it would be possible to identify customers who may have come into contact with the employee.

A spokesperson for the company said:

“A colleague was tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday and is now self-isolating in accordance with Government Guidelines.

“The store received a specialist deep clean in addition to the ongoing regular enhanced cleaning regime across all our estate.”

The member of staff affected has been in self-isolation since the diagnosis.

B&M, the company that owns Heron Foods, has said that government guidance has been followed, and that the store has since been deep cleaned.

They have stated that the store is now safe to visit, and emphasised their use of social distancing measures in store.
