Council issue statement to dog owners
North East Lincolnshire Council have issued a statement informing dog owners that they are not allowed to exercise or walk their dogs along the central beach from Good Friday, and have requested that they act responsibly over the Easter weekend.
Dogs have been banned from the beach between Wonderland and Cleethorpes Leisure Centre from the 10th of April until the 30th September.
Usually, Easter weekend would see the beach, parks and open spaces full of people getting together to enjoy the long weekend and spring weather.
However, the current Covid-19 lockdown means that people are no longer permitted to leave their home unless it is essential or for their daily exercise.
People are allowed to exercise once a day, but they must remember to maintain social distancing at all times, especially when using open spaces, such as the beach and parks.
The advice has largely been to avoid public spaces, although the government have said that people are allowed to walk their dogs as a part of their daily exercise.
The council’s beach safety team is calling on everyone to be responsible this Easter weekend and not flock to the beach.
They have said that staff will be patrolling hotspots, and that the team have a sufficient number of vehicles to ensure staff are not being put at risk and can patrol alone, so as to maintain social distancing rules.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said:
“We understand people want to get out the house and exercise with their dogs, but there are other places to enjoy a walk.
“Please do not use the main beach from Good Friday. Instead, you can walk between Cleethorpes Leisure Centre and the Humberston Fitties – all while keeping a safe distance.
“If you do choose to use the beach for exercise, please follow the advice from Government and maintain social distancing. Be responsible.
“The beach will still be here when all this is over, so please, I urge everyone in North East Lincolnshire to be responsible. Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.”
