2019 ØRSTED Great Grimsby 10k race hits the streets this Sunday

The much anticipated Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k is back for the fourth and best race yet.

The race is a chance for both experienced runners and first-timers to compete for a personal best, raise money for charity or simply challenge themselves to cross the finish line and get this year’s unique medal.

Everyone is invited to the Finish Line Festival at People’s Park where there are free activities for kids, food and drink stalls and places to play or picnic.

Sharon Codd, from Grimsby has loved volunteering at all four Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k’s.

“I was born and raised here so I got to see my local streets buzzing with spectators and runners- it really brings the area alive.

“I love volunteering at the race because there is a really good atmosphere, everyone is really positive, marshals are there to support the runners and the runners are grateful for the volunteers.

“At the last race I spoke to some people who had come from Manchester and they said it was so well organised and the best race they had done!

“Volunteering can’t be valued enough, I feel like I’m a part of everyone’s journey, doing their first race or trying to get their personal best.

Sharon said: “There are lots of different roles but I don’t mind what I do.

“They could stick me in a wheelie bin with a sign saying ‘put your bottles here’.

“I’m just happy to be a part of it.

“I will do anything… apart from running it.”

“I enjoy it so much and would encourage anyone to do it.”

The race pulls together local businesses and charities who both contribute to, and benefit from the 10k as well as the public who come and cheer on their family, friends and community members.
