Desperate mum fiddled £18,200 in false benefit payments.

Laura Spencer of Naseby Grove, Grimsby fiddled £18,200 in false benefit claims.  She did not declare that she was back living with a boyfriend who had a hole in his head after being attacked with an axe. It is believed that this caused him some behavioural issues he did not like the job centre so was not claiming benefits.

They split up and then got back together but she did not declare this. They had three children and had been together for 16 years. She committed the offence in desperation because she was not working and had a lot of financial pressure. She had not had a lavish lifestyle.

Laura Spencer admitted two offences of failing to notify a change in her circumstances which affected her entitlement.

She was given a six -month community order with supervision and eight days of rehabilitation. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a government-imposed £85 victims surcharge.
