Look up! Look up! Fantastic flying displays

On both Saturday and Sunday at this year’s Armed Forces weekend in Cleethorpes we have some fantastic flying displays for you to enjoy.

In the afternoon on Saturday, you’ll be able to see displays from the solo Strikemaster Display, which was used for RAF training in the 1960s-80s) and you’ll be amazed by the aerobatics of the CAP 232 which has more world championship titles to its name than any other aircraft.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s (BBMF) Douglas C-47 Dakota will be doing a flypast for us around 1630 as well. ZA947 is currently painted to represent Dakota FZ692 of No 233 Squadron, around the D-Day period in 1944. This aircraft, which was named ‘Kwicherbichen’ by her crews, was involved in Para-dropping operations on the eve of D-Day and subsequently in re-supply and casualty evacuation missions into and out of forward airfields in the combat areas.

In the evening, we have the spectacular Fireflies display team dropping by Cleethorpes. This aerobatic display, around 2130 on the Saturday evening will be a first for the resort, with pyrotechnics from the wingtips of the aircraft.

The grand finale for Saturday will be a 15 minute firework display to music.

If you’ve not had your fill of aircraft, come back on Sunday to see displays throughout the afternoon.

World War Two aircraft, the P47 Thunderbolt and the Fairchild Argus will be flying in the early afternoon, along with another spectacular display from the Fireflies. The BBMF’s Hurricane will be displaying mid-afternoon, followed by the Miles Hawk Trainer which is a civilian version of the Miles Magister, used as a trainer by the RAF in the late 1930s.

Things then come a little more up to date for the end of the show with a display from the RAF’s Tucano team, the aircraft used to provide basic fast jet training to pilots, and we “bring on the noise” with the amazing Typhoon display team (29 Sqn from RAF Conningsby) who will showcase the mind blowing display of speed, power and agility of the aircraft.
