Hospital patients will not get Weetabix or Bran Flakes any more.

Hospital patients are going to lose their Weetabix and Bran Flakes because of rising prices. The NHS is planning to cut breakfast costs by £420,000.

The Health Minister Stephen Hammond is going to launch an initiative he said by buying in bulk it would not be reducing quality or quantity and could save a third.

Hospital managers are going to be urged to use the central purchasing arm of the health service, NHS supply chain, rather than buy locally.

The NHS will not routinely stock Weetabix or Bran Flakes because of rising prices. Branded items will be swapped for like- for- like products that give better value.

The NHS pays different amounts for things like beans, tea, and jam.  If hospitals sign up they could save thousands of pounds. Mr. Hammond wants all hospitals to join, nineteen trusts are in the scheme.

NHS Supply Chain say that they work hard to source nutritious food at the most competitive prices.
