A young woman and her three children were woken when their two-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux barked after an arsonist attacked their home with petrol.
Their home in Farebrother street was set alight by materials pushed through the letterbox the woman believes the dog’s barks saved their lives.
A witness is thought to have seen a blue car circling around the block earlier around midnight and that the driver parked in Patrick Street and sat in the car.
Emergency crews were called at approx 2.58am on April 10th. The occupants managed to get out of the house while fire crews tackled the blaze. Luckily no one was hurt.
Police are treating the incident as a suspected arson attack and have launched an investigation.
