North East Lincolnshire Council is encouraging people to take pride in the area they live in by supporting this year’s Great British Spring Clean. |
The event by Keep Britain Tidy, which runs from 22 March to 23 April, aims to bring the community together to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep. The council will support volunteers by loaning litter picking equipment and arrange the removal of rubbish collected, to be placed in a predetermined location agreed with the council. Local groups can arrange a clean-up and volunteers are encouraged to find out about their nearest events by searching their town or postcode online at The Great British Spring Clean. Councillor Matthew Patrick, portfolio holder for environment, said: “Come and join your community in tidying up our streets and public spaces in this year’s Great British Spring Clean. “We’re just days away so get signing up now to make a difference in your area. “Last year, 371,556 people joined forces across the country, taking a national stand against litter. This year, Keep Britain Tidy are aiming even higher.” Councillor David Bolton, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “We know communities can have a huge impact on their local area helping to keep it clean and tidy – somewhere to be proud of. “The Great British Spring Clean gives us all the opportunity to play our part and do our bit for the environment. “Many of us have seen for ourselves on the television how damaging plastic and litter is to our planet.” Councillor Steve Beasant, chairman of the overview and scrutiny committee, added: “The Great British Spring Clean will see up to half a million people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country. “I’d encourage anyone to get involved in these litter picks, either as an individual or as part of a group. No matter how big or small your contribution is, it can make a difference.” You can get involved by visiting www.keepbritaintidy.org/get-involved/support-our-campaigns/great-british-spring-clean For litter pick advice or to enquire about hiring equipment from the council (on a first come first served basis), email cleanandgreen@nelincs.gov.uk. |
