A goal from top scorer Scott Vernon was enough to see Cleethorpes deservedly through to the next round of the Trophy and a home match against Mossley.
After a slow opening to the tie, a spell of pressure from the home side resulted in the only goal moments before the interval. Excellent play from Josh Batty teed up Vernon, who slotted home from 10 yards.
Frickley did their best to respond and their best moment came in the 86th minute when keeper Theo Richardson made a superb fingertip save to deny Nathan Newall.
It could have been worse for the visitors though, with Josh Batty having an effort ruled out by the assistant’s flag.
