Match reports: Wins all round for Cleethorpes Cricket Club sides

All three Cleethorpes Cricket Club sides secured victories in their fixtures at the weekend.

The first team beat Aston Hall and the East Lindsey side saw off Barton Town, while the third team were handed the victory and all 20 points after Alford and District conceded the game.

Cleethorpes firsts secured a convincing nine-wicket win over Aston Hall to keep their good form going.

After losing the toss and fielding first, the breakthrough came after some excellent work from Matthew Owen to secure a run-out.

Wickets were hard to come by at the halfway stage and Aston Hall looked well set to form a decent total when they were 90-2 at drinks.

The introduction of Kieran Brooker alongside Mayank Mishra proved to be a turning point in the game. Mishra bowled superbly with 2-35 from his 15 overs, but Brooker was the star of the show, as he returned figures of 5-54 to restrict Aston Hall to 186-9 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Tom Keast and Bill Kirby got off to a fantastic start with a great partnership of 137. Keast was the star with 108 not out to see his side home, aided by Kirby (43) and Cook (23 not out) to ensure the win in the sunshine in front of a bumper crowd.

Cleethorpes’ East Lindsey team remain top of the table after recording a comfortable win over last season’s league winners Barton Town at Chichester Road.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and lost three early wickets, with Hanzullah Niazi removing the top three batsmen.

Barton then steadied the ship with a decent partnership before Akbar Amadzai took a valuable wicket. Joseph Atkinson remained at the crease to form another valuable partnership before Jayden Stocks took the next wicket.

Atkinson fell a couple of overs later for 43 to Alfie Deans, who then followed that up with another wicket. Ali Hossein then got in on the act with a wicket before Hanzullah completed a five-wicket haul for just 17 runs in his eight overs. Barton finished all out for 126.

Cleethorpes started brightly, with Joe Sands and Deans scoring 25 off the first four overs.

Sands then fell for 18 and Stuart Wood joined Deans at the crease. Some excellent batting saw the pair put on a 72-run partnership before Deans eventually fell for a handy 42.

Wood (37) and Rob Cowlam (28) finished the job in the 25th over to hand the Meggies an impressive eight-wicket victory.
