Cleethorpes beach left with ‘disgraceful’ amount of litter following record weather

As the record weather continues, hundreds are said to have flocked to Cleethorpes beach throughout the day, whether to soak in the sun or some cases bring in the night with revelry.

The increase in temperature and record weather prompted those to continue on the beach, despite warnings, but now the beach has been left with a ‘disgraceful’ amount of litter.

In May, the warm weather brought many locals and tourists to the beach but unfortunately, they also did not take their rubbish with them.

Many were quick to share their anger with the litter, stating that people should respect the coastline and the wildlife that lives on it.

One said: “This makes my blood boil. We have such a fabulous beach and coastline but why do people have to disrespect it like this.”

The litter was seen strewn on the beach yesterday evening, following reports of ‘hundreds’ of youths drinking on the beach. There are also said to have been fires lit on the beach, which can be a danger in itself as the sand will retain a high temperature, in the case of disposable BBQs.

“Came down for a lovely swim on the Fitties tonight and faced with hundreds of young lads girls, drinking and the beach is covered in bottles, cans, etc, we’ve picked up so much disgraceful!” one local said.

“Lots of large groups partying, drinks bottles, cans all left on the beach, fires lit using the sea defences /chestnut fencing) parents are driving their kids here with their crates and bottles of booze but not collecting rubbish after. Also, highlight the dangers of swimming when drinking. It is a Concern and happens every summer once school is out.” another added.
