Eight rescued from Cleethorpes beach due to rising tide

Yesterday Cleethorpes saw extremely high temperatures, pushing locals and tourists alike to the beach in an attempt to cool down.

Despite the weather, not everything on the beach was sunny as eight people were rescued from the rising tide.

Cleethorpes Coastguard, Donna Nook Coastguard, Hull Coastguard, and RNLI Cleethorpes all combined forces to rescue those who got stuck and keep everyone else safe.

A total of eight people had to be brought ashore by boat, with even more being assisted by the coastguard and water rescue teams.

RNLI Cleethorpes said: “The rising tide this evening caught several groups of people unawares, and our volunteers launched to assist Cleethorpes Coastguard, Donna Nook Coastguard, and Hull Coastguard to several incidents in the Cleethorpes and Humberston area.

“In total, 8 people had to be brought ashore by boat with more assisted by the coastguard water rescue teams.

“With the hot weather due to continue, keep an eye on the tide times if you’re cooling off at the beach.”

Many were quick to praise the rescue teams for their amazing work during the extreme heat, as one person wrote: “What a fantastic job in this extreme heat, can’t be easy with all the essential kit on.”

Another said: “Never fails to astound me your devotion to duty. We are so grateful for all you do.”

Temperatures are set to skyrocket again today, as they could reach nearly 40C.

Those visiting the beach should check tide times before going into the sea, wear suncream and drink plenty of water.
