Petition calls for more public toilets in Cleethorpes
Since Armed Forces Weekend last month, many residents have called on the council to open more public toilets around Cleethorpes.
North East Lincolnshire Council closed public toilets on the promenade years ago but one local has taken it upon himself to rectify this issue.
Danny Rising has already gained 679 signatures, almost hitting his target of 1,000.
His petition reads: “After several years of seeing people, myself included, suffer from a lack of adequate public toilet facilities in Cleethorpes, it’s time that NELC took some positive action, and quickly.
“I’ve read all too many comments on social media from tourists and holiday makers making their feelings known on this matter, even more so since an estimated 180,000 attended the hugely popular Armed Forces Weekend recently.
“The current facilities simply are not adequate for where we are told NELC wants this town to be, and it is holding back visitors from coming more frequently.
“Yes, there are many bars and restaurants which have toilets, but this is not their area of responsibility, NELC need to be held accountable for this, and they need to take positive action.
“The toilets on the North Promenade were closed many years ago.
“Surely with the highly anticipated regeneration of this area to come, this would be the ideal time to re-open those?
“That would be a start at least. I need your help with this folks, please. One voice will quickly become drowned out.
“Please sign my petition in order for me to approach NELC with this in the correct manner, and hope that we can actually see some progress.”
Many have rallied behind the petition, as the hot and sunny weekends will bring tourists and locals alike to the resort.
One supporter wrote: “I totally agree that Cleethorpes needs good quality toilet facilities, including a really decent disabled toilet with hoist and bed. Not enough of these facilities available nationally so why don’t we spearhead decent well kept and clean facilities.”
Another said: “Armed Forces Wkend showed the negative impact of having so few toilets; queuing over 45mins just for using the disabled/childrens changing WC. The ‘normal’ queue over an hour!”
