Fundraising continued as ‘Sunflower’ for Ukraine at the Linden Club

After the donation and fundraising campaign for Ukrainian refugees, Emma & Mariusz Kosakowski took it upon themselves to transport aid to Poland, to Mariusz’s hometown of Hrubieszow.

They are now continuing their fundraising efforts with the ‘Sunflower’ festival, following on from their efforts transporting aid and continuously raising funds, “We both knew it couldn’t end there.” they said.

Emma continued:

“To our friends, our family, the local community, and for everything that they have including the help and support it was unbelievable”

“We both knew it couldn’t end there because we didn’t even scratch the surface.

“My friend Liza Walsh does a Shania Twain Tribute, we saw her at a gig a few months ago, we went our boxes around and raised around £90. She messaged me the next the day and suggested a gig to raise some money, which grew into the seed to lets get a few more people into this.” she said.

The event is set for 29th July at 7:30, at The Linden Club, with doors opening at 6:30. “We’ve got raffle prizes, two tickets for Wicked in London. Plenty of vouchers for beauty items, and we have all sorts coming in. We’ve got stalls too and so much more. ” Emma said.

They spoke further of their experience so far from taking aid, and receiving donations for their cause.

Emma continued to say “A lot of the donations came from people we know.

“We asked the people what they needed with the money but still, it was like let’s buy more”

The first town they visited was a town called Chelm with a relation, Renata, who had contacts in the town through the local Baptist Church.

“They gave us a list and we went straight to the supermarket in Poland. They were so grateful yet embarrassed to ask for things” Emma said.

As they were shown around, they saw things that they say ‘will stay with them forever’ including rows of made-up temporary beds, in the Baptist Church.

“When we got back they cried as if we’d just given them the world. We bought medicines and the money was stretched far and wide.” Emma said.

“We heard of young children turning up with severe nappy rashes, the children were in the same nappies for over 40 hours”

“They were really strong the people working with the refugees, by the day they were getting stronger. My Dad said to be strong, be brave, and do what you can”

“We had learned about this priest, who had taken in around 25 orphans with severe disabilities. We arranged to meet the priest at the shopping centre, he came with a list with different needs, there were four women with around 27 children, including their own children.”

They now hope so raise further funds to help Ukrainians, and provide a fantastic evening to achieve this.
