‘Little hands making big memories’ at The Paint Box Cleethorpes!
In Cleethorpes tucked away behind the side streets, is a quaint studio in a prime location, The Paint Box, which specialises in activities for under 5s and infants.
The studio creates a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, with a quiet tranquil space for attendees to feel at ease, and let their creativity shine.
We spoke to Rachel, who told us more about her ethos behind the studio, and what she hopes to provide for those who may have additional needs to be met.
“The Paint Box is a paint your own pottery studio and we specialise in activities for under 5s and babies hand and footprints.
“I’ve always worked with children with special needs and additional needs, I worked one to one with someone who had Aspergers.
“It has always been an area that I’ve enjoyed working in and I’ve found interesting.”
A local cinema, Parkway Cinema, also runs autism-friendly screenings, including the local shopping precinct, Freshney Place, which also has autism hour on the premises.
“I saw that the cinema had started doing sessions, so I thought I could do that, I could offer my studio to children on the spectrum and additional needs, we just needed to adapt a little bit.” Rachel said.
Rachel hopes to accommodate as thoroughly as she can, she says it doesn’t matter if a child breaks something, as it is all part of the learning process and she is more than happy to facilitate their needs.
“When I do a session I ask them what it is that they need, such as music being off or dimming or the lights, including non-verbal and sensory toys, I ask parents what they need from me. I do my best to accommodate these needs, if I can make a change I will.
“Since advertising, I’ve noticed quite a few new followers and I have had mum’s message in, so far we have hosted two sessions since the pandemic. The children have found it really good, it’s nice to be able to offer it and everyone seems to be responding well.
“I’m a mother, although my child is neurotypical, I don’t want anyone to ever worry about coming in here, first and foremost I’ve been there, I have 20 years of experience working with children.
“Mess clears up so don’t worry, we are very relaxed, pottery can be repaired and replaced, but memories with your children are more important.”
The Paint Box is located on Cambridge Street, In Cleethorpes and more information can be found here.
