A memorial service will take place in Cleethorpes to mark the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands.

On Saturday the 18 June, Cleethorpes Royal Naval Club will be holding a memorial service at the Memorial Gate on Cleethorpes Seafront for the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands.

On 14 June 1982, the British Task Force took back control from the Argentinians after they invaded the islands on 2 April 1982.

During the war, 255 British Servicemen, 3 Falkland Islands residents, and 649 Argentine servicemen were killed in action.

Armed Forces Cleethorpes said: “On the 40th anniversary, it is our time to remember all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, fighting for and defending British sovereignty.”

There will be a short service, starting at noon, with the Sea Cadets Band, a Piper, and a number of Falklands War veterans from all three services, plus other Navy, Army & RAF veterans, parading to pay their respects to the fallen.

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony, three wreaths will be laid by representatives from the Royal Navy, Army, and RAF.

The following weekend will be Armed Forces weekend in Cleethorpes which is returning after covid forced its cancellation for the last two years.

The weekend will be packed full of events and will see hoards of locals turn out to support and celebrate our servicemen and women.

The Red Arrows will once again fly over the resort, with Cleethorpes carnival also making an exciting comeback.
