Giant crown to light up Cleethorpes for Queen’s jubilee

A giant crown beacon will light up Cleethorpes next week to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

Cleethorpes’ beacon is one of 2,000 to light up the UK in celebration of her majesty’s reign.

The Armed Forces Major Events Team has arranged for Alexandra Road to be closed from 5 pm from Yarra Road to The Knoll for the street party.

Residents are invited to bring a picnic, tables, decorations, and refreshments for an amazing street party outside The Knoll.

Director Alex Baxter said the beacon would be lit on the roof of The Knoll at around 10 pm, though the entertainment, including a five-piece band, will begin at 7 pm. The National Anthem and other patriotic music will be performed.

“We would encourage people to come along and enjoy the evening in celebration of Her Majesty,” he said.

Beacons will also be lit at Louth and Scunthorpe and on the South Bank of The Humber Bridge at the same time.

Many other exciting events are planned across the area including a flotilla made up of 70 vessels that will set sail on the Humber Estuary, setting off from Hull Marina and sailing to the Humber Bridge.

The flotilla will be led by an ABP pilot boat and will include inshore lifeboats operated by Humber Rescue, and an eclectic mix of pleasure boats, fire-fighting tugs, and fast patrol boats from Humberside Police and Humberside Fire Service, the MCA, and Trinity House. Historic ships will include Humber sloops and keels and fishing trawlers.
