Hypothermic deer rescued from Cleethorpes beach
In another amazing rescue, Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue saved a hypothermic and weak deer from Cleethorpes beach yesterday evening.
After waiting for crowds to disperse and reduce the risk of the deer becoming frightened and kicking out, volunteers headed to the shore to help this poor animal,
Cleethorpes Beach Safety and Humberside PCSOs kept the public safe and away from the scene as the rescue team carted the deer off for immediate treatment.
Thankfully, the deer is already on his way back to full health and will be released to join his mate in the wild very soon!
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said: “One rescue today was this Roe Deer from Cleethorpes Beach, he was hypothermic and weak.
“Although weaker than normal, deer such as this can still pose a risk to volunteers and the public should it kick out, run for cover or even protect itself with its antlers so extreme caution is taken and we only intervene when we feel it’s safe to do so… On this occasion, we had to wait a little while before attempting a rescue so that the crowd dispersed and allowed us a safe area to work.
“Thank you to Beach Safety and Humberside Police’s PCSO for their support in keeping the public safe while we focused on the deer!
“Once back at the rescue, treatment started straight away and he’s already doing much better… Unlike muntjac deer, roe deer are legally able to be released back to the wild after treatment so we expect him to be joining his mate back in Cleethorpes soon!”
