Beach construction begins for new RNLI station
Construction on Cleethorpes beach has now begun to make way for the new RNLI lifeboat station.
Part of the beach where the new station will be situated has been fenced off as workers begin to remove sand ready for construction.
Works for the station began back on April 19, with part of the promenade being sectioned off for works to commence.
The new station will be situated on the beach in front of the current station and will provide the capability to position a second lifeboat at Cleethorpes, a more powerful B Class Atlantic 85, which will join the existing D-Class lifeboat already on station.
According to the RNLI, this will allow the charity to respond more quickly to emergencies.
Speaking when the station was announced, RNLI said: “There will be some unavoidable disruption to traffic on Central Promenade, and construction noise as is inevitable for a project of this size but we hope that the new building will be an asset for the whole resort and an attraction to visitors as well as providing a first class lifesaving facility for the area.
“The project will cost in the region of £3 million, and will be funded entirely by the RNLI.”
Andy Burden, Deputy Launch Authority at Cleethorpes, added: “The new building has been designed to be an asset to the resort, complementing and enhancing the central promenade and becoming a visitor attraction in its own right.
“We’re all local residents ourselves and are pleased that such care has been taken in the design of the station.”
