Public warned about interfering with wildlife after ducks separated from mother at Boating Lake

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue has asked the public not to intervene with wildlife at Cleethorpes Boating Lake after ducklings were sadly separated from their mother.

According to the team, members of the public tried to do the ‘right thing’ by separating the duckling from their mother.

They also fed the ducklings cheese puff crisps, making them extremely ill, as human food should not be given to birds.

Their lead rescuer is now having to work around the clock to make sure they survive.

This is not the first instance of human intervention causing harm to animals, as the rescue team have seen many poorly birds over the past few days.

Members of the public are asked not to intervene with wildlife unless the animals are in immediate life-threatening danger.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said: “Today we had ducklings brought to us after members of the public separated them from mum trying to do the ‘right thing’, these ducklings had also been fed cheese puff crisps so a few are also very poorly!

“Our lead rescuer is working around the clock to give them the best chance of survival.

“Over the last few days we’re had a lot of poorly young birds who would have had a better chance of survival without human intervention. We’re going to be creating a big post about what you can do for baby birds which will hopefully be posted early tomorrow. Your support by sharing the post when it’s out would be hugely appreciated.

“For now, if you have any concerns for wildlife, please speak to your rescue before intervention unless they’re in IMMEDIATE life threatening danger.”
