Rare black swan spotted in Cleethorpes
A rare bird has made an appearance in North East Lincolnshire.
A black swan was spotted graciously gliding at Cleethorpes Country Park yesterday.
The bird is native to Australia with sightings extremely rare in the UK.
According to reports with fewer than four sightings in Scotland.
It has black feathers, has a red bill, and white wing feathers.
The swan has the longest neck, relative to its species.
It is the official bird of Western Australia and is featured on their coat of arms.
The bird was introduced as an ornamental species into the UK.
A 2012 study of bird populations in the British Isles found there were just 37 confirmed nesting pairs of black swans in the country.
Reportedly residents who were lucky to catch a glimpse of the bird say they were left ‘shocked’ to see such a beautiful bird.
