James Bulger’s killer in new bid to be freed

James Bulger’s killer Jon Venables is to start a new freedom bid in the coming months after a term for child abuse images.

According to The Mirror, Venables, 39, has served more than four years for having a paedophile manual and for the possession of thousands of indecent images of children.

It was the second time he had been caught with child abuse images after an eight year term for murder.

Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, both 10 at the time, killed two-year-old James in Liverpool in 1993 after taking him fom a shopping mall in Merseyside.

The pair served eight years before being freed on licence with lifelong anonymity.

In 2010, Venables was jailed for having child sex images.

He was freed in 2013 and recalled to prison in 2017 after 1,200 child sex abuse images were found on his laptop.

Venables lost a parole bid in 2020 and it was reported that he would serve another two years in jail before applying again.

After his last parole hearing, James’ dad Ralph, 53, warned: “He won’t stop until he has killed again.”

Should the parole board go ahead it would not be to public knowledge to protect Venables latest identity.
