Queen Consort role will be ‘great honour’ says Camilla

In an interview with the BBC Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, called the Queen Consort title a ‘great honour’.

Earlier this month the Queen granted the Duchess permission to use the title when her husband the Prince of Wales, becomes King.

There had been suggestions that the Duchess would be referred to as “Princess Consort,” but in a recent statement the Queen said it was her “sincere wish” that Camilla would have the title of Queen Consort.

This is frequently shortened to ‘Queen’.

By announcing the decision, The Queen ended years of speculation over the Duchesses title.

Now, she has spoken out the decision for the first time since the announcement was made.

Speaking to BBC presenter Emma Barnett Camilla said: “Of course it’s a great honour, it couldn’t be anything else.”

But the decision has been met with widespread controversy by many who feel the decision is disrespectful to Diana, Princess of Wales, who divorced Prince Charles in 1996 and died the following year.
