Sea Road development site left dormant despite £1m investment

The site of the former Waves club on Sea Road, Cleethorpes, has been left vacant despite a £1m investment from the Humber LEP’s local growth fund.

A public engagement event was held back in 2019 where feedback was considered for final design draw-ups.

The original proposal was formed as part of a Cleethorpes regeneration program which included several major heritage projects.

It was thought that work would commence at the plot on Sea Road in line with other works after the former Waves nightclub was demolished, but the site has remained vacant ever since.

In 2020, a press release published by North East Lincolnshire Council and Invest NEL stated that the development would be complete by “Spring 2021, ahead of the new tourism season.”

Speaking at the time Councillor John Fenty said: “I want to assure people that we are actively looking at ways in which we can use the site to offer significant benefit to Cleethorpes as this is a prime area in the resort and one which we are sure will be very popular.”

A “national marketing campaign” is said to be underway to find an operator for a “planned new multi-functional building.”
