Traffic restrictions return to Cleethorpes Promenade
Traffic restrictions return to Cleethorpes Promenade today (28 November) as works resume on the new RNLI Lifeboat Station.
Over the past few weeks most of the works have been carried out off-site at the fabricators of the steel meaning restrictions could be lifted to minimise the amount of disruption to residents and businesses.
Lifeboat Operations Manage Mick Fowler said: “With deliveries of large concrete base sections, and the steel frame of the building, our contractors need to ensure that everyone is kept safe during constructions.”
Restrictions will be lifted from 23 December to 4 January at a minimum for the festive period.
Works are set to finish in the Summer of 2023 and aims to deliver an enhanced and safer lifesaving service.
Throughout the project the current lifesaving service will continue uninterrupted from the current station, with 51 lifeboats being launched so far this year.
Works on the £3 million station began back on April 19, with part of the promenade being sectioned off for works to commence.
The new station will be situated on the beach in front of the current station and will provide the capability to position a second lifeboat at Cleethorpes, a more powerful B Class Atlantic 85, which will join the existing D-Class lifeboat already on station.
RNLI have been sharing regular updates on their Facebook page documenting the works that are expected to take 12 months to complete.
Andy Burden, Deputy Launch Authority at Cleethorpes, added: “The new building has been designed to be an asset to the resort, complementing and enhancing the central promenade and becoming a visitor attraction in its own right.
“We’re all local residents ourselves and are pleased that such care has been taken in the design of the station.”
