Henry Cavill speaks out on losing ‘perfect’ role

Henry Cavill has spoken about missing out on a major film role for a much-loved series, as the author hoped the actor landed the role originally.

Cavill has spoken about missing out on the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, as the film’s author Stephenie Meyer hoped he would get the role.

The 39-year-old star, appeared on Happy Sad Confused Podcast on Wednesday, adding that he was not aware Meyer had hoped he would get the role.

Unfortunately for Cavill enthusiasts, Meyer refuted the role for Cavill at 24, due to being too old to play the high school vampire, the British actor said he felt there was no rivalry with Pattinson.

‘I didn’t know about the movie,’ Cavill said.

‘I didn’t know about them wanting to cast me and the internet wasn’t quite the tool that it is now and so I only found out afterwards. I was like, “Oh okay, that would have been cool.”‘

Cavill said that he has been in the running for a number of prominent roles in his career, but didn’t mind missing out.

‘Essentially, I got close to a bunch of stuff and didn’t get it, but it’s funny that people think that’s a bad thing,’ Cavill said.

‘In Hollywood – or in the acting industry – everyone’s trying to get a role and they’re not necessarily getting them.

‘And so, to get an opportunity to be in the limelight by missing out on the big roles is actually a good thing as opposed to a bad thing. And I count my lucky stars for each one of those.’

Meyer said on her blog in 2007 that she had hoped that Cavill could have played the role.

‘Years have passed, my actors have aged, and I think the time has come to recast the Twilight Movie. (For fun, of course! I still have no say in who gets hired.),’ Meyer wrote.

‘The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward.

‘Henry Cavill is now twenty-four-years-old. Let us have a moment of quiet in which to mourn…’
