Black Panther actress says filming sequel was ‘hollow’
Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o reveals on set details of the first day working on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, following the tragic passing of co-star Chadwick Boseman.
The star passed around two years ago, with the sequel still going ahead.
‘It was hollow. It was very evident that he was missing and we were all feeling it, but also we had each other, so we were able to lean into each other, it was actually the only way to go forward I imagine was to lean into it and be there for each other,’ the actress, 39, said on Good Morning America.
‘It was good to be making this with a bunch of people who knew him, who had experienced his light and his love and so we could commiserate and really lean on each other,’ she added.
Lupita referenced that playing the role of a grieving character helped heal the loss she was feeling personally.
‘Nakia is a little bit more advanced in the stages of grief than I was, so it was therapeutic to work on this role to get through my grief,’ Lupita said.
The Kenyan-Mexican Academy Award winner has been on a press tour promoting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is set to release on November 11.
Describing her new movie in three words, she said on GMA it was ‘moving, daring and life-affirming.’
