Locals saddened after disappearance of Boating Lake sandpit pirate ship
Locals in Cleethorpes have been left shocked and saddened as the pirate ship in the sandpit at Cleethorpes Boating Lake has been demolished.
The ship was erected almost 20 years ago and has been a hotspot for parents and children throughout the summer months.
However, despite the years of fun and laughter the ship is no longer viable due to the elements rotting and eroding the structure.
Many locals have been left devastated by the news, sharing their own memories of the beloved play structure.
One person said: “If it’s rotten then it’s not safe for kids to be on. It’s a shame as remember taking my lad on it. But some serious work needs to go into boating lake area as no attraction. Silt and mud needs cleaning out of lake. Zoo could have been saved. Pleasure island a waste.”
Another added: “The boat is such a feature it would be a huge shame to not have something similar replace it. I’m sure the community would all help out to raise some money too.”
Others talked about replacing the structure: “Could replace it instead of just getting rid of it all together there’s going to be nothing left here at all for the kiddies and the grandchildren.”
“What a shame we only saw this as it was all taped off last week , you think the council would help the guy to fund and build another one kids loved it,” said another.
The owners are currently searching for other play equipment to occupy the site that will be accessible for all children.
