Walkers ‘appalled’ at state of Fuller Street bridge

Residents and local walkers say they are shocked and appalled at the condition of Fuller Street bridge in Cleethorpes.

The bridge is regularly used as a thoroughfare for people walking to and from the beach and for football fans visiting Blundell Park.

Many say the area has been plagued with dog mess and litter, and that they are horrified by the state of the bridge and disappointed by the lack of effort put into its upkeep.

Now, dangerous holes have appeared in the rusty metal walls of the bridge.

One resident said: “I can’t believe the condition this bridge has been allowed to get into. A child or small animal could easily come to serious harm on this bridge. Then what?”

Another added: “The council need to do something about this. People pay their rates and what do we get back for it in this area? It’s disgusting”

But this isn’t the first time the bridge has prompted an unfavourable reaction. Numerous sources say they have complained to North East Lincolnshire about the situation. Back in 2019 ongoing issues resulted in a report which found the bridge ‘unsafe’ to be unsafe, with authorities recommending it be demolished.

North East Lincolnshire Council have been contacted for a statement.
