Match report: Cleethorpes Rugby claim handsome win over Market Rasen 2nd team
Cleethorpes Rugby put in an excellent home performance to claim a big victory over Market Rasen’s 2nd team on Saturday afternoon.
Following a late call-off from Nottingham Corsairs on Thursday night, Rasen kindly stepped in to ensure a game went ahead.
Despite being a few players short ahead of the encounter, the hosts did the honourable thing and lent the away side some players to make up the numbers.
Cleethorpes were in fine form on the day, though, running out 54-0 winners at Wilton Fields.
Although the scoreline suggests a one-sided affair, the game was keenly contested between the two sides throughout.
Cleethorpes’ younger and inexperienced players gained some valuable experience in readiness for their trip to table-topping Nottingham Medics in two weeks’ time.
Players that stood out for the hosts were Southern with his direct running, Adams growing into his role at 10, and Holmes driving over the line with just about half of the Rasen team on his back.
Man of the match for the away side was Nathan Phillips, who made his long-awaited comeback during the game.
Try scorers for the home side were Hyde and Machon each with two, Holmes, Parker, Southern and Adams, who also converted seven times.
