Multiple people cut off by tide prompting a fast RNLI rescue in Cleethorpes

There were police vehicles seen attending Cleethorpes seafront as the RNLI launched their lifeboat, following members of two families being cut off by the tide.

An alert was issued over two adults and three children who had become cut off by the fast-approaching waters. There were also members of the Coastguard involved in the rescue.

The RNLI confirmed the launch f their lifeboat at 4.37 pm. Several police vehicles were spotted attending the incident as the lifeboat rushed to their aid.

Fran Wilkins, of HM Coastguard, said: “We will always respond when someone calls 999 because they’ve got into trouble. But we really would ask people to stop and think.

“A few simple tips will help your day from becoming a nightmare. Check the weather and tide times before going out set an alarm on your phone to remind you. Be careful or be caught out.

“Even the most experienced can be caught out don’t let it happen to you. What might look like a safe route back is actually really boggy mud. If you do get trapped in mud, spread your weight evenly across the surface.

“What might look like a small channel can actually be deep, fast flowing water making wading or swimming across it ill-advised and extremely dangerous. The Sea and the coast can be unmerciful if you make a mistake- do all you can to avoid making it. If the worst does happen, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
