Swimmers to brave freezing sea and scorching heat for Cleethorpes 1 Mile Sea Swim
Volunteer swimmers are set to brave the freezing sea and scorching heat this weekend for the charity Cleethorpes 1 Mile Sea Swim.
The event aims to raise money for charity such as the essential organisation RNLI, which keep our beaches safe and perform life-saving rescues.
Hosted by Blipactive, swimmers will head out to the 200-meter markers offshore from the lifeboat station, head west to the turn around point at the pier head before finishing at the slipway opposite the lifeboat station.
It costs £10 to enter, with £2.50 of each entry being donated to the RNLI.
Taking place on Sunday 17 July, temperatures are set to be sky-high as the UK braces for a record heat wave, with an amber warning already in place.
The event organisers are also calling on SUP board owners to volunteer and offer support to swimmers who may need it on the day.
First, second, and third-place medals will be offered to the top male and female swimmers in this grueling challenge.
The RNLI is currently constructing a brand new lifeboat station on Cleethorpes beach at the Brighton Slipway.
The new £3 million station, funded entirely by RNLI, will be situated on the beach, making rescues faster and more effective.
Andy Burden, Deputy Launch Authority at Cleethorpes, said: “The new building has been designed to be an asset to the resort, complementing and enhancing the central promenade and becoming a visitor attraction in its own right.
“We’re all local residents ourselves and are pleased that such care has been taken in the design of the station.”
