PM resigns assuring ‘I will serve until a new leader is in place’
The PM Boris Johnson has announced his resignation today outside of No10 Downing Street, to a host of media outlets and MPs, including his wife and child.
“It is clear now the will of the parliamentary Conservative Party that there should be a new leader of the party and therefore a new prime minister,” Mr. Johnson said.
The PM said the process of selecting a new leader should begin immediately and the timetable is set to be announced next week.
Mr. Johnson went on to assure viewers that “I will serve until a new leader is in place.
“We must keep levelling up, keep unleashing the potential of every part of the United Kingdom, if we can do that we will be the most prosperous in Europe,” he said.
The PM continued to say that “our brilliant and Darwinian system will produce another leader,”
As the speech went on, the PM continued saying it is ‘preposterous’ to change Governments, rejecting calls for a General election. He continued by citing “delivering so much and such vast mandates when the economic scene is so difficult domestically and internationally.
“I regret not being successful in arguments and it’s painful not to see through so many ideas and projects.
“Being prime minister is an education in itself- I’ve travelled to every part of the UK and i’ve found so many people possessed of such boundless British originality and so willing to tackle old problems in new ways.
“Even if things can sometimes seem dark now, our future together is golden.” the PM concluded as he received some applause exiting.
