Locals highlight lack of adequate toilet facilities in Cleethorpes

There have been issues highlighted following a successful Armed Forces Weekend, that adequate toilet facilities are not in abundance, along Cleethorpes Seafront.

Although the issue was particularly identified following the staggering amount of visitors seen during the weekend, particularly the Saturday, there have been prior complaints regarding facilities in Cleethorpes.

On their website, NELC has listed the available public toilets around the resort, however, the Grant Street facility remains closed. The facilities are situated on Kingsway, The Boating Lake, St Peter’s Avenue, and Sea Road.

“The portaloos on the seafront were provided by Oliver’s as they do each year and not North East Lincolnshire Council. The Borough needs more toilets along the seafront and much bigger bins during AFD in my opinion.” one user wrote, regarding Armed Forces Weekend.

St Peter’s Avenue consists of:

  • Male – 3 cubicles / 1 urinal trough
  • Female – 7 cubicles
  • Ambulent – 1 male / 1 female
  • Disabled – 1

Sea Road facility has:

  • Male – 11 cubicles / 2 urinal troughs
  • Female – 19 cubicles
  • Ambulent – 1 male / 1 female
  • Disabled – 1

The Kingsway location has:

  • Male – 3 cubicles / 2 urinal troughs
  • Female – 8 cubicles
  • Ambulent – 1 male / 1 female
  • Disabled – 1

The Boating Lake facility has:

  • Male – 3 cubicles / 1 urinal trough
  • Female – 5 cubicles
  • Ambulent – 1 male / 1 female
  • Disabled – 1

“It was disgusting I saw many people urinating in bushes and behind parked cars, streets are bad enough without stinking of urine toilets are needed with an attendant too” another resident added.

“It’s a disgrace – I’ve just been to a concert at The Lincolnshire Showground and the number of portaloos was amazing for the crowd size! It literally was ‘pick your loo’. Cleethorpes Council really, really should provide more sanitation for visitors to our wonderful town.”

“Need a whole load of new proper toilets too. I know loads of people can’t actually visit because of this. Surely missing tourist cash too.”

As concerns have been raised over the public toilets, do you think additional facilities should be installed for usage all year round?
