Motorists face congestion at new Peaks Parkway junction
Construction of a new junction on Peaks Parkway is causing congestion for motorists.
A new road into North East Lincolnshire’s Doughty Road Depot is being built off Peaks Parkway, with the work being scheduled to last until July.
Traffic is being managed by temporary traffic lights.
There are reported long tailbacks along Peaks Parkway towards the main Victoria Street Junction and south to Welholme Road junction.
There have also been reports of a long queue at B&Q, which is opposite the depot.
Traffic is reportedly flowing but there are long delays for customers exiting the retail park.
Commuters also faced longer queues along Louth Road at Scartho as traffic tailed back along Scartho Road towards Waltham and the A16.
There were also queues along Hewitt’s Avenue as motorists detoured.
The work to construct the new junction on Peaks Parkway started on Monday and the Doughty Road depot remains operational while the works are carried out.
A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said: “There could be disruption to journeys in the area while the temporary traffic lights are in use. This is part of the ongoing refurbishment of the site. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
“Doughty Road Depot is becoming outdated and needs to be redeveloped to cater for the services that will be based there.
“Bringing our depots together on one site will reduce our property maintenance costs, improve service efficiency and provide good quality facilities for the workforce.
“The property improvements will also help us improve the energy efficiency of our buildings and move toward a zero-emissions vehicle fleet.”
There are three-way temporary traffic signals from Monday 9 May until Friday 10 June.
