Cleethorpes touring caravans under threat
A planning application has been submitted to the NELC planning portal by Lichfields, on behalf of Haven holidays.
This could see the end of the road for touring caravans at Humberston’s Thorpe Park holiday centre, as they move to replace two areas with serviced static caravans.
At present, 120 pitches are allocated for tourers compared with 1,772 for statics.
Site operator Bourne Leisure Ltd which operates the 184-acre site wants to phase out the former in order to accommodate more of the serviced static caravans.
It’s proposal is subject to the consent of North East Lincolnshire Council whose planners are currently considering the application.
Information on the application has more context, it states their intention:
“Certificate of Lawfulness for the partial change of use from the siting of unserviced static caravans to the siting of serviced static caravans.” the proposal application was titled.
“The application seeks confirmation that the part of the caravan site used for un-serviced static caravans, at Thorpe Park Holiday Camp (“the Site”), can be used for the siting of serviced static caravans.”
“The site currently provides 1,772 pitches and 120 touring pitches. The Park also has a large range of on-park facilities including multi-use games area; fishing lakes; tennis court; indoor swimming and outdoor swimming pools; lazy river; 9-hole golf course playground and sports facilities; and an indoor.”
It is understood the northern part of the site known as ‘Heron’ has recently been cleared of un-serviced static caravans.
“Haven intends to site approximately 103 (serviced) static caravans in this area (on ‘Heron’ and ‘Fulmer’) which comprises fewer units than the number of un-serviced static caravans.”
