Starmer lockdown beers probe should reopen says minister
A minister has said Durham Police should reopen the investigation into whether Sir Keir Starmer broke coronavirus restriction laws.
Mr Starmer has come under fire as footage emerged of him drinking a beer with colleagues in April 2021, which was when restrictions were in place.
Speaking to Sky News, International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said officers should “look at it again”.
She suggested if a FPN could be issued it “would be the tool available for them to do so”.
“I don’t think that is a resigning matter, personally” she added.
The PM told ITV’s Good Morning Britain Programme “I have no idea” if he would receive another fine.
Sir Keir has accused the Tories of ‘mudslinging’ over the calls for investigation into the video.
The Labour leader was asked on Tuesday whether Durham Constabulary have made anymore contact with his office over the matter.
“There was no party, no rules were broken, that is the long and short of it” he told the BBC’s today programme.
A Labour source said that Durham Police have not been in touch with Sir Keir over the matter, saying as they have not reopened their investigation.
Sir Keir was asked about the matter on Monday, the Labour leader said: “We were working. It was days before the election. We paused for something to eat.
“There was no party, no rules were broken. There is nothing I can add to that.”
